Avanti Freewheelers Community Cycling Club – Reading, your local community cycling club based in Reading, has grown out of the passion and desire of a small group of cyclists, coaches, instructors and ride leaders who wish to provide a special opportunity for young people, primarily aged 11/12 to 16, to enjoy the freedom and excitement that comes from riding their bikes.
We’ve all cycled since an early age and most of us spend many hours each week cycling to work, cycling for work of just plain having fun cycling! Our aim is to help and encourage todays young people to have as much fun as we had when their age; and still do!
After Bikeability Levels 1, 2 and 3, what’s next? Not much unless you’ve close friends or family who are into cycling. There are few clubs for young people to join. Sure there are Go Ride clubs for the racers but it can be daunting to see all of those skin-suited lycra-clad young athletes on their specialty bikes and just join in. Of course there are also a small number of adult cycling clubs who allow 16+s to join in but until now there’s been nothing run explicitly for those leaving primary school who want to ride regularly, to explore, to have cycling adventures, learn new skills and much more.
Your next step? Visit our upcoming events page to see what’s coming soon or if you have a question or two, why not drop an email by visiting our contacts page. Remember, you’ll need an adult, parent, guardian or carer to bring you along the first time. We look forward to seeing you soon.
Or if you’re over 18 snd you’d like to get involved by working with us or becoming a volunteers, check out our lates vacancies.
